Description
The AI for Science Master’s program at AIMS South Africa is a special program that focuses on combining artificial intelligence (AI) with science. This program is made possible through a partnership with Google DeepMind. It's a one-year program where students live on campus and learn about AI and its applications in science. The program is open to students from Africa who are interested in math, AI, and machine learning. It's looking for students who are curious about the world and want to use their skills to make new scientific discoveries.
Google DeepMind is funding 40 students per year for four years, starting in September 2023. This funding covers everything students need, like tuition, equipment, and other costs. These students are called Google DeepMind scholars, and they get special opportunities to work with Google DeepMind's researchers and engineers.
Besides scholarships, the program will also use Google DeepMind's expertise in AI for Science.
To apply for this program, you need to:
- Live in Africa
- Be a citizen of any African country
- Have completed a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year undergraduate degree with an honors
year by August 2024 (or December 2024 for southern African applicants)
- Not have received a scholarship to study at AIMS before
- Your undergraduate degree could be in physics, math, statistics, computer science, engineering, or any other
subject with a strong focus on math and computers.
Applications for the 2024-25 academic year will open in January 2024.
The application process happens in two rounds:
1. Online selection round: You need to register on the AIMS website and upload your CV, a letter explaining why you want to join the program, your academic transcripts, and answer some math and coding questions.
2. Interviews: If you pass the first round, you'll have a short online interview in April 2024.
